Kern County supervisors appoint Richard Strickland to head airports

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Kern County Board of Supervisors appointed airport administrator Richard Strickland as Director of Airports to replace retired Director Jack Gotcher.
Strickland assumes the Director position on May 13.
Strickland has more than 15 years of experience in international airport management. He comes to Kern County from Axis Consulting of Chicago, where he conducted financial feasibility studies for a number of international and foreign airport projects.
Prior to his consulting work, Strickland managed aviation for San Diego International Airport. He was assistant Airport Director of Aviation Services at Detroit International Airport before that, and he began his career as deputy director of Palm Springs International Airport. In these positions, Strickland oversaw property leasing and airline relationships, managed operating and capital budgets, conducted a revenue analysis and developed capital financing plans.
Strickland earned a Bachelor's in finance from San Diego State University and he is a member of the American Association of Airport Executives.
