Kern County to celebrate Halloween with safe and spooky events

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Halloween has descended upon Bakersfield -- and local families can celebrate tonight at a variety of local events.

The following is a list of just some of the safe (and spooky) ways to enjoy All Hallows' Eve in Kern County:


Stop The Violence Harvest Celebration

4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

1627 Virginia Avenue

- Stop the Violence Movement, Inc. is hosting a Harvest Celebration with free food & games. According to organizers, they want to provide a safe environment for kids to enjoy.


Safe Halloween

5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

3801 Chester Avenue

- The 29th annual Safe Halloween will be held this evening at the Kern County Museum. According to organizers, there are candy stations, a bounce house, a sledding hill and pedal carts. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for Museum members.


Boys & Girls Club "Spookyville" Penny Carnival

5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Armstrong Youth Center - Boys & Girls Club, 801 Niles Street

- The Keystone Club of the Armstrong Youth Center Boys & Girls Club is putting on "Spookyville" -- a fun and low cost event for the Halloween family. It includes carnival games -- which cost a penny each -- along with a Halloween costume contest, a raffle and popcorn.


Family Fun at Olive Drive Church

5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

5500 Olive Drive

- Olive Drive Church is holding its annual Family Fun Night with free carnival games, a petting zoo, bounce houses, bracelet making, paintball shooting & more. There will also be music, food booths and raffle prizes.


"Trunk or Treat" Halloween

5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

North Chester Avenue frontage road, north of Norris Road

- Kern County Supervisor Mike Maggard, along with local agencies and community groups will be hosting a free "Trunk or Treat" Halloween event tonight in Oildale. It includes free trick or treating for kids, along with a bounce house.


Valley Baptist Church Harvest Fest

5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

4800 Fruitvale Ave.

- Valley Baptist Church is putting on its annual Harvest Fest tonight, with bounce houses, food and candy. It's free to attend.


Scream In The Dark

7:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

3201 F St.

- Tonight is the final night of "Scream in the Dark," which is located at the Golden State Mall on F Street. Tickets are $10 per person.


Delirium Haunted House

7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

1800 Shamrock Court, Wasco

- Tonight is also the final night of Delirium Haunted House in Wasco. It is free for all ages.


Talladega Frights & Zombie X

7:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.

3801 Chester Ave.

- "Talladega Frights" & "Zombie X" are both located at the Kern County Museum. Tickets are $20 for each event.


Silver City Ghost Town Lantern Tour

8:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.

3829 Lake Isabella Blvd.

- Tonight is the final Silver City Ghost Town Lantern Light Tour & Ghost Hunt, which is located in Bodfish. Tickets are $12 per person.
