LAMONT, Calif. - Things are slowly getting back to normal in Lamont after deputies shot and killed a suspect they spent all of Wednesday night looking for.

Kern County Deputies said they pulled over a man who then jumped out of his car and shot at police before running off.

Police searched for him and found him hiding at a nearby business.

Several blocks were locked down as deputies searched house to house for the suspect.

Just after 8 a.m. on Thursday, officials said the SWAT team was clearing a travel trailer in the back yard of a home when they say the suspect started shooting from inside the trailer.

Deputies said they opened fire and the man died at the scene.

Lamont schools were closed for the day because of the standoff.

Deputies said the suspect was a hispanic man in his twenties.

They said his name probably won't be released until tomorrow.

No deputies were injured during the incident.
