BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - It's not the kind of thing you expect to see inside of a courthouse, but Legend, a 3-year-old lab, has a special role.
Legend is a comfort dog. He was originally trained to be a seeing-eye dog.
But Legend flunked out of training because he was too afraid of busy intersections.
Now he is a member of the Kern County District Attorney's Office.
Legend comforts witnesses and victims when they testify in court proceedings
Legend is trained to quietly lay his head on the lap of a witness while they are on the stand and comfort them as they testify.
Thursday was Legend's first time in an open court. He comforted a young girl who had witnessed a crime as she testified.
