BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A local Liberty High Graduate and Bakersfield Native who has been playing Professional soccer for the last four years is now a free agent.
Quincy Amarikwa, 25 has been playing soccer since he was 3 yrs. old. His father Charles Amarikwa, a local businessman and owner of Internet Galaxy on New Stine Road, used to take him to his men's league practices and games as a child. He then played A.Y.S.O, Club, and High School soccer, before heading off to U.C. Davis where he lead his team to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history in 2008. That's when his talent was recognized by scouts which forged his professional career. Since then, he has played for the San Jose Earthquakes, Colorado Rapids, New York Red Bulls and finally the Toronto FC.
Amarikwa is now in his 4th and final year of his MLS contract and is currently in negotiations with 2 professional teams in the league to see where he will play next. However, he has not ruled out the option of playing overseas professionally.
Amarikwa is now considered a seasoned professional soccer player, however he says there is always room to grow and he is looking forward to his next adventure.
"There's always a lot to learn still and I feel like I'm just now tapping into my potential," Said Amarikwa. "I know I can be a much better player, but from the standpoint of understanding the business side of the professional game and understanding what I need to do to be prepared and perform at my best ability, yes I'd say I've come into my own."
