Lincoln Jr. High School band ready to upgrade ancient instruments with Mr. Holland's Opus grant

TAFT, Calif. - The school band at Lincoln Junior High School in Taft is getting new instruments.

Currently the band has to play with instruments that have been pieced together from older instruments.

In some cases the band is using instruments from the 70s.

Some kids in the band told 23 ABC that their grandparents played the same instrument they're playing now.

Thanks to a donation from the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, the band is now getting new instruments to replace some of the older ones.

The band will get a baritone, two sousaphones, four clarinets, a tenor saxophone, four trumpets, two trombones and four flutes. The total donation is $23,000.

The band teacher says the new instruments will be great for the students' confidence and make the band sound much better.
