Bakersfield veteran hit, killed by car while crossing street

MADERA, Calif. - Family and friends are mourning the loss of a Bakersfield electrician and veteran, who died Wednesday after he was hit by a car while crossing the street in Madera.

CHP officers said 25-year-old James Chvala Jr., also known as Jimmy, was on the job Wednesday morning when he crossed the street to grab a shovel and was hit by a car.

Chvala was a 2006 graduate of Bakersfield High School and was on the track team from 2003 to 2006. 

Chvala was also a member of the United States Army.
