BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Four states and nearly 860 miles later, Bakersfield has another championship in the world of endurance cycling.
A team of three local guys and one girl won the mixed team title at the 'Race Across The West'.
Tony Castiglone, Mark Farias, Lori O'Lin and Patrick Mason were first to cross the finish line in 47 hours and 23 minutes, setting a new race record for a mixed team.
The race started in Oceanside, CA and ended less than two days later in Durango, Co.
Riders took turns alternating on the bike and raced non-stop from start to finish.
The Bakersfield riders were part of the Jeremy Staat Foundation team, riding to raise awareness about veteran suicide and childhood obesity.
A welcome home party is being held on Thursday, June 20th at Lengthwise Pub on Calloway Drive beginning at 7 pm.
