BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Wednesday afternoon Discovery Elementary students will break a sweat as they run to raise money for local families with sick children.

The "Running for Ronald" event is a chance for students to run laps while fundraising for our local Ronald McDonald house.

The home is a place for local families to stay while they're children receive treatment at Memorial Hospital and since it opened it's doors four years ago the place has been packed.

According to the Director of the Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House, Scarlett Sabin, " last year alone we had 700 over night families stay with us."

The house relies on community donations like this explained Sabin, "last year from all the schools that participated last year we raised about $80,000."

Wednesday, high school student leaders as well as Condor's Hockey Players will be there to cheer on the children as they run laps to raise money.
