BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Kern County District Attorney has announced no criminal charges against the local mother, who's five-year-old son drowned in a canal.
Last June, Dominick Valencia slipped and fell into the Beardsly Canal while walking with his mother, Yvette Valencia.
Valencia said she tried to save him but couldn't.
Valencia was possibly facing a felony child abuse but the Kern County DA determined she did not act with criminal negligence.
They did say evidence suggested Valencia acted careless but it did not rise to the level of criminal negligence.
