BAKERSFIELD - A Bakersfield Oscars watch party was hosted Sunday by Hazel Bergtholdt - a member of the Mighty Striders cycling team.

Bergtholdt enjoys hosting parties and she thought the Oscars would be the perfect opportunity to raise money for a good cause at the same time.

"We are raising money for MS (multiple sclerosis)," Bergtholdt said. "My uncle had MS and he was a big movie fan. So I thought it went right together. The Oscars and raising money for MS."

The Mighty Striders donate money to the National MS Society. This fall they will be participating in their biggest bike ride of the year.

"The Coastal Challenge that we are doing this year, I've done it three times," Bergtholdt said. "It's down in Ventura. Last year we had a bunch of different teams and we have went all together. So there is about 26, 27 of us on the team now."

The Mighty Striders said they have monthly fundraisers of various sorts. More information on the group can be found on their Facebook page  www.facebook.com/TeamMightyStriders  and the Mighty Striders' National MS Society page

The group was able to raise $800 at their watch party Sunday.
