Local programs receive over $180K through a Chevron grant program

Individual programs received $2,500K to $10K

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Chevron Energy Center will host and observe the Girl Scouts STEM careers mentoring program Saturday after the organization received a grant from the company.

On Nov. 30, Chevron announced the recipients of the 2012 Community SPIRIT Awards grant provided by the energy company's Bakersfield headquarters.

35 local program received $185,000 this year.

Recipients include the Bakersfield Memorial Hospital Foundation, Covenant Community Services, the local Girl Scouts and the Buena Vista Museum of Natural History. 

All organizations funded through the grant program address critical needs in the community including education, health, economic development and quality of life.

Individual grants ranged from $2,500 to $10,000.
