Local teen to be honored at Bakersfield Blaze game for rescuing a drowning 11 year-old girl

Christian Lozano battled waves to save girl

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Blaze will be honoring a local man who saved a 11 year-old from drowning near the Ventura Pier last month.

Christian Lozano, 16, rescued Maya Harding from the waves that threatened to drown the girl.

"I heard a cry for help instantly, so I didn't think about it, I just jumped in the water and I just started paddling out," said Lozano.

Both Lozano and family, as well as Harding and her close relatives, will be in attendance for the Bakersfield Blaze baseball game on Saturday, July 20. Gates open at 6:45 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:45 p.m.
