In the spirit of giving and helping those less fortunate, people throughout kern county have the opportunity to help local children in need.

The Kern County Department of Human Service's Holiday Cottage is open at the Northwest Promenade on the corner of Granite Falls Drive and Coffee Road.

The Holiday Cottage was established 29 years ago to fulfill the Christmas wishes of children placed in foster care around Kern County.

The holiday cottage is staffed by volunteers, representing local community groups, greeting members of our generous community and assisting them in selecting a wish to fill.

The gift is then purchased and returned to the cottage, unwrapped. The holiday cottage arranges for the gift to be delivered directly to the child in time for the holidays.

The Holiday Cottage will remain open daily through Sunday, December 11. It will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
