BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Local veterans in need had the chance to go to "Operation Stand Down" Thursday morning.

The annual event is geared towards getting veterans off the streets and helping them find more opportunities according to "Operation Stand Down" Chairman Deborah Johnson.

Over 40 booths were at the event giving free food, haircuts and employment options to veterans in need, says Johnson.

Johnson says there are currently at least 179 homeless vets living here in Bakersfield.
