BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -
World War II Army Private First Class Norval Monroe was killed in the line of duty almost 70 years ago in France.
Since then, his Purple Heart was lost among family and finally found at a pawn shop in Tulare Co.
A veteran bought it and brought it to Bakersfield, but it was a school project at Bakersfield High School that found the rightful family.
On Tuesday, Monroe's niece, Linda Newman, stopped at the Wall of Valor in central Bakersfield to welcome the Purple Heart back into her family.
