Low-cost rabies vaccination, licensing Saturday

City and county held separate events

The City of Bakersfield Animal Control Division gave out low-cost rabies vaccination and licensing clinic for their pets.

From 9:00 a.m. until noon Saturday, the City of Bakersfield Animal Control Division offered low-cost rabies vaccinations and licensing with free microchips to all currently licensed dogs at The Park at Riverwalk, 11200 Stockdale Hwy.

Kern County Animal Services held a similar event at north Beardsley Park for county residents.

The free microchip program is a year-long effort that is focused on reducing the number of impounded animals entering the shelter system. This form of electronic identification for animals is fast becoming the preferred method for reunification between lost pet and owner.
