Bakersfield man accused of killing wife was allegedly holding two-month-old at time of murder

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A Bakersfield man accused of killing his wife was allegedly holding his two-month-old child during the time of the murder, according to court documents.
23ABC obtained the documents, Friday, that stated Jorge Cortes was holding the baby in one hand while he was strangling his wife with the other.
Cortes was arrested after his wife Maria was found not breathing at an apartment off Brundage Lane late Saturday night.
He appeared in court, Tuesday, where he plead not guilty to the crime.
Police said the woman had died from blunt force trauma to the head.
The two-month-old along with the couples other children were placed in protective custody.
Cortes faced charges of murder and child endangerment.
Cortes' bail was set to $1.5 million.
