BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A man who pleaded guilty to bringing a 15-year-old California girl to Reno to work as a prostitute has been sentenced to 14 years.
Twenty-year-old Vernon McCullum III was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Robert Jones, who also ordered McCullum to lifetime supervision for his crime of transporting a minor for prostitution.
McCullum apologized to the victim and told the court he was ready to leave his life of crime and respect the law.
McCullum was indicted in January after police in Bakersfield, Calif., received a report of a missing 15-year-old. Photos of the girl were then found on a sex-trafficking website advertising her as available for prostitution services.
