BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A man on the sidewalk was struck by a vehicle after the driver lost control on Tuesday, Oct. 23.

Officers of the Bakersfield Police Department responded to a call of what was initially reported as a hit and run injury accident at Chinook Avenue and Clay Patrick Farr Way.

Upon officials' arrival, it was determined that John David Phillips Jr., 24, was driving his Chrysler Sebring southbound on Clay Patrick Farr way when he lost control of his car.

Phillips went onto the west sidewalk and struck a 22-year-old male, who was walking or possibly riding his skateboard on the sidewalk, just south of Chinook Avenue.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and is considered to be in critical condition.

The cause of the collision s still under investigation. At this time neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor.
