Man shot at Patriots Park while with son

Suspects fled scene, not found

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Officers found Gerald Mitchell, 57, suffering from a single gunshot wound at Patriots Park at 1600 New Stine Road on Friday evening.

Investigators determined that Mitchell was walking through the park with his 13-year-old son and another juvenile when they saw a disturbance taking place between two groups of males in the park.

An single gunshot was fired by one of the subjects involved and Mitchell was struck in the chest.

Officials report that Mitchell and the juveniles were not involved in the disturbance, nor were they the intended target of the gunfire.

Mitchell was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and is in stable condition.  The suspects fled the scene and have not been located.
