Man involved in Mojave shooting, 2-hour chase through Bakersfield pleads no contest

Prosecutors dropped attempted murder charges

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A man was in court Wednesday for charges relating to a a shooting in Mojave leading to a two-hour, high-speed chase in Bakersfield.

Christian Nevarez plead no contest on charges of reckless evading an officer, assault with a deadly weapon other a firearm and transporting a controlled substance.

Other charges were dismissed, including attempted murder and assault with a firearm.

Deputies said 22-year-old Christian Nevarez and a 16-year-old, shot a man at the Motel 6 in Mojave, then headed for Bakersfield.

The chase lasted for two hours and reached a top speed of 110 miles per hour, according to officials.
