March held to protest Kern County Sheriff's deputies and actions in beating of David Silva

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Two events are being held today to remember the father of four who was beat by deputies before he died.

MARCH HELD FOR DAVID SILVA

A march was held this morning to protest the actions of the Kern County Sheriff's Department in the beating of David Silva.

The march began at 9 a.m. and started at 1415 Truxtun in Bakersfield.

FUNERAL FOR DAVID SILVA

The man who died following a fight with a group of Kern County Sheriff's deputies will be laid to rest.

The family of David Silva told 23 ABC that funeral services will be held this afternoon, May 16, at Greenlawn Mortuary beginning at 4 p.m.

BACKGROUND STORY

On Tuesday, May 7, deputies with the Kern County Sheriff's Office went to the area of Palm and Flower in east Bakersfield after a Kern Medical Center security guard found an unconscious man and reported him.  When deputies arrived they found a 'highly intoxicated man'.

According to KCSO reports, used forced with batons to arrest Silva, since he was reportedly resisting.

Silva was taken into custody when deputies noticed his breath was shallow and taken to KMC. He was prounounced dead later that evening.

Witnesses of the beating said police used too much force and that Silva was not resisting at all.
