FRESNO, Calif. - The public is invited to an open house to discuss a proposal to base Navy F-35C fighter jets in Kings County beginning in 2017.

The Fresno Bee reports  Navy officers will answer questions Tuesday about noise, air quality and other concerns related to stationing about 100 joint strike fighter jets at either Lemoore Naval Air Station or El Centro Air Facility.

Written comments on the draft environmental impact report for the project can be submitted by April 22.

The Bee says a final environmental impact statement will be released later this year, followed by a decision from the Secretary of the Navy on where to base the new jets.

Tuesday's meeting is from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lemoore Civic Auditorium.
