BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - On Thursday, April 18th, 2013, the Kern County District Attorney’s Office filed additional charges against Kern County Sheriff’s Deputy Gabriel Lopez.
The charges were filed in relation to an additional victim who was identified by Kern County Sheriff’s detectives who were investigating allegations that Deputy Lopez had improperly touched a woman while searching her on March 25th, 2013.
After detectives identified the additional victim, she was interviewed regarding a contact she had with Deputy Lopez at her home.
Detectives said Lopez was sent to her home in the Tehachapi area for a report of a peace disturbance on March 26th, 2013.
While Lopez was investigating the peace disturbance he spoke to the victim, an 18-year-old woman, inside the home, detectives said.
At one point, detectives said Lopez advised the woman that he needed to search her for weapons and drugs.
Detectives said the woman indicated that Lopez improperly touched her while searching her.
After a review of the investigation involving the second victim, the District Attorney’s Office filed charges of assault under the color of authority, sexual battery, and false imprisonment against Deputy Lopez.
