BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Bakersfield Area received its first shipment of new patrol cars this week.
The Ford Police Interceptor Utility Vehicle (Ford Explorer) will gradually replace aging Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor vehicles statewide. Ford stopped manufacturing the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor vehicle in 2011.
The Bakersfield Area received four new Interceptor Utility vehicles to help with the aging fleet.
These are the first CHP patrol vehicle purchases in two-and-a-half years. The Interceptor Utility meets CHP’s safety, performance and payload capacity requirements.
If you “feel the need for speed”, then you can look for a Police Interceptor Utility vehicle in a rear view mirror near you, Robert Rodriguez with the CHP said.
