BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - In the spirit of Father's Day--a non-profit group is collecting photos of you and your dad in hopes of raising money to keep Merle Haggard's childhood home in Kern County.
The group, Citizen's Preserving History, collected photos from across the country that showed the memeries fathers have created with their children. The photos included picture with dad reading, playing the violin sending one man off to service.
"We're just pleased so many children get to grow up with their fathers because Merle didn't have that opportunity because his dad died when he was only nine years old," said Dianne Sherman from Citizen's Preserving History.
Each photo came along with a $5 donation that will go towards helping move Haggard's childhood home, a box car built into a home by his father, to the Kern County Museum.
"We've raised half the money that we need but we still need Bakersfield to kick in and make this happen. It's an important part of our history that we don't want to lose," said Linda Rankin with Citizen's Preserving History.
The winner will be announced Father's Day morning, here .
