"North of the River" Chamber of Commerce holds business conference

Chamber hopes to attract more business to area

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The "North of the River" Chamber of Commerce held their third annual business conference Thursday to help local businesses succeed. 

The commerce wants to help attract more partners to the surrounding area. 

Ronald Nelms, who owns a small land surveying business off Norris Road, has noticed the work the chamber is doing. 

"I like to stay up on the information. It's important," Nelms said. 

Nelms takes what he learns from the chamber and applies it to his work. 

According to officials, the NOR community continues to grow as they anticipate the addition of the new Bakersfield Blaze ballpark. They hope to get more business once the facility opens. 

Members of the Chamber are also helping student in the area by providing scholarships to student at North , Centennial, Liberty and Frontier highs schools.
