A man shot by El Cajon police Tuesday afternoon has died, according to the El Cajon Police Department.

Officers received calls of a man who was "not acting like himself" and walking into traffic Tuesday afternoon. Officers asked him to remove his hand from his pocket and when he did not comply, an officer drew his firearm.

The subject rapidly drew an object from his pocket and extended it toward the officer.

Another officer with an electronic control device used his weapon at the same time as the officer with the firearm discharged his weapon several times, hitting the subject.

The subject was taken to a hospital for treatment and passed away. The subject was an adult African American male in his 30's.

The officer-involved shooting drew a crowd of angry people to the scene, 10News in San Diego reported.

A restaurant nearby was closed and people protested at the scene following the event.
