Officials find 59 firearms during house search

Three firearms considered assault weapons

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Bakersfield police detectives said they found 59 firearms and live ammunition in a home of a man suspected of check forgery on Thursday.

The detectives assigned to the Financial Crimes Unit went to a residence located in the 2300 block of Gage Street to conduct a follow-up investigation on tips about a check forgery case.

Upon arrival, officials contacted 54-year-old Andrew Manuel Garcia and obtained permission to search the residence.

A search revealed over 50 firearms, with three of the firearms being considered assault weapons by officials.

Garcia was arrested and transported to the Kern County Jail where he was booked for felon in possession of firearms, possession of assault weapons, and felon in possession of ammunition.
