BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -
Officials have declared cell phones as the number one source behind distracted drivers.
The California Highway Patrol, California Office of Traffic Safety, and Central Law Enforcement traffic safety partners launched the third annual enforcement and awareness campaign in observance of April as National Distracted Driving Awareness month and California Teen Safe Driving Week.
The month long effort targeting distracted drivers involves more than 200 CHP offices and statewide law enforcement agencies.
Officials also said cell phones are the number one killer in teens as distracted drivers.
