OILDALE, Calif. -

Deputies arrested a suspect after he reportedly entered a home in Oildale and beat a victim with a hammer Sunday morning.

On Nov. 25,  at 2:10 a.m., Kern County Sheriff’s Deputies received a report of a man beating people with a hammer in a house on Lincoln Ave. in Oildale.

Deputies said they arrived and found the suspect, 20-year-old Bobby Joe Smith III, being held down by the victims at the house.

Officials said that residents reported that Smith came inside their home wearing a mask and gloves and demanded their computers and other electronics and brandished a hammer at them.

Family members said they were then attacked by Smith who hit a male victim several times with the hammer.  Another family member subdued and disarmed Smith by hitting him in the head with a baseball bat.  Family members then held Smith down until the Deputies arrived moments later.

Smith was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and burglary.

Officials said Smith was taken to Kern Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

A male victim at the house was treated for bruises and cuts to his back, abdomen and legs from the hammer attack.

Officials are investigating this incident as a home invasion robbery.
