BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Dozens of local special needs students in the Bakersfield City School District have gathered for an annual tradition.
For the 40th year in a row, the 'Rafer Johnson Track Meet' will take place at Rafer Johnson Children's Center on 10th Street.
The event allows severely handicapped students to partake in track and field events from the javlin to the long jump and specialty events like frisbee.
Johnson will be in attendance.
He won the gold medal in the decathlon at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome and the silver in the 2956 Olympics in Melbourne.
