One crucial thing you might forget to pack as your children head back to school
Why premade meals are a no-no

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - You may have your children's backpacks and school supplies ready for the first day of school but nutritionists want you to remember how important packing a healthy lunch is as well.
23ABC spoke to local nutritionist Mandee Stewart about healthy lunches that save time and money.
"The lunchable boxes range anywhere from $3.99- $4.99 and you can do a PB&J sandwich which the average cost is 59 cents" Stewart said.
If you're trying to dodge the lunch duty all together by leaving you child's fate up to the school lunch lady, Stewart wants you to reconsider.
While school lunches have gotten healthier, Stewart warns that "food for the masses" style doesn't always have your kid's personal needs in mind.
"The meals are not based on individual basis and that's where you can come into the problems and complications with the school lunches" Stewart explained.
If healthy lunches sound too gourmet to construct during your morning rush Stewart wants you to think again.
Stewart said, "my preference is a PB&J or a peanut butter and honey sandwich. It provides an adequate amount of protein (as well as) the complex carbohydrates and good amount of fat and quality fat".
