BUTTONWILLOW, Calif. - A man is dead after a mini-van crashed into a big rig this morning.
On Monday, April 8, at about 6:50 a.m., officers with the California Highway Patrol went to the area of Copus and Old River Road, just west of Interstate 5, regarding a van that had crashed into a big rig.
Officials said the van had stuck the side of the big rig and then lost control. The rig was able to pull over to the side of the road, but the mini-van swirved and hit a tree, according to reports.
Officials said the driver of the van, 38-year-old Cipriano Maximo Bernal, of Porterville, died due to the impact of the crash. Four other people were also inside the van, but were reported as 'okay'. The front seat passenger was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries though.
The highways remained open, but the intersection of the crash slowed down.
