BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - One person suffered minor injuries after a car careened over the side of Highway 178 east of downtown Bakersfield.
The accident happened just after midnight Wednesday, according to the California Highway Patrol. Officers say the Scion sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and careened off the freeway.
The car landed upside-down on the Union Avenue off-ramp. It took approximately 10 minutes for Bakersfield City firefighters to cut the trapped driver out of the vehicle.
The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Kern Medical Center.
C.H.P. officials says drugs nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash. They are, however, investigating whether the driver was using her cell phone just prior to the accident.
