One man in the hospital after officer-involved shooting in East Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting in East Bakersfield.

It happened at 6:14 p.m. Sunday in the 3300 block of Pioneer Drive. The Kern County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Ray Pruitt said one man was shot by deputies. The suspect was taken to Kern Medical Center for treatment.

No deputies were injured. The Sheriff’s Office is in the early stages of the investigation.

“We’re trying to figure out what led up to the shooting and what occurred,” said Pruitt.

Three blocks of Pioneer Drive were closed around 7 p.m. and Pruitt said he doesn’t know when they will be back open.

One woman who lives near the crime scene told 23ABC she heard the whole thing happen.

“Next thing you know we just heard bam bam bam and before you could say anything there was 10 to 13 shots fired, but I stayed inside,” said Betty Castaneda.

The suspect’s name is not being released.
