One person killed in south Bakersfield shooting

SWAT team on scene to secure neighborhood

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - One person was killed in a south Bakersfield shooting last night.

On Wednesday, June 5, at about 6:45 p.m., deputies went to Opal Street, near McKee Middle School, regarding a shooting.

The Kern County Sheriff's Deputies arrived to find a man--later identified as 35-year-old Dante Keith Breeding--with a gunshot wound, dead at the scene.

The SWAT team was also called as a precaution to secure the neighborhood.

53-year-old Gerald Harris of Bakersfield, was arrested for homicide and was booked into the Kern County Sheriff's Office Central Receiving facility. The bail amount has not yet been determined. 

The coroner's report said Breeding's death was caused by a shotgun wound and the manner is homicide.

The investigation is ongoing.
