SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Lawmakers, community volunteers and non-profit groups all over California are busy teaming up to give away thousands of free Thanksgiving turkeys to people in need.

They are helping out with 'Operation Gobble', started some 20-years-ago by utility company, American Water.

Turkeys will end up going to needy people around California.

These turkeys are provided at reduced cost by grocery store chain Save Mart. In all, 30,000 turkeys will be given away in California.
