BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Several business owners say parking in downtown Bakersfield is becoming an issue.
“People call me and go, ‘I’d love to make an appointment but there’s no parking,” Bonnie Tomlinson, owner of Biscuit Boutique & Doggie Spa, told 23ABC.
An empty lot that borders Tomlinson’s store is being converted to outdoor seating for The Mark restaurant.
“(Customers) don’t want to take their clean dog and walk two blocks, three blocks to their car after they’ve picked it up from grooming,” Tomlinson said.
She said parking had been an issue prior to The Mark taking over the area.
New shops and restaurants – including Bleu Lavander, Wall Street Café and Boss Pizza Co. – have brought increased traffic to downtown.
“If you want to just pop into a shop really quick, you have to circle the block quite a few times,” said shopper Erica Garcia.
“I have to batch my trips and decide to go to one or two businesses at the same time so I can economize.”
