WASCO, Calif. -

A Kern County Sheriff's Deputy was almost hit by suspected drunk driver during a traffic stop late Saturday evening.

On Oct. 6, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a Kern County Sheriffs deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 700 block of F Street in the City of Wasco.

During the traffic stop, the deputy looked back toward his patrol vehicle and saw a blue Hyundai sedan driving toward his vehicle.  The Hyundai crashed into the left rear bumper and side panel of the patrol vehicle.

The deputy was forced to jump toward the vehicle he had stopped to avoid being hit by the driver of the Hyundai.  The driver of the Hyundai did not stop after hitting the patrol vehicle and continued northbound on F Street.

The deputy ran back to his patrol vehicle to stop the driver of the Hyundai.  The deputy activated his lights and siren and the driver of the Hyundai finally yielded in the 400 block of F Street.

The driver was identified as 59-year-old Gustavo Zamora Garcia.   When contacted by the deputy, Garcia had the distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath and person.

California Highway Patrol responded to investigate the traffic accident and suspected drunk driving.

Garcia was booked into the Kern County Sheriffs Office Central Receiving Facility for a Hit and Run resulting in property damage, and a DUI.  Garcia is currently being held in lieu of $15,000.00 bail.
