MCFARLAND, Calif. - The Kern County Sheriff's Office is notifying the public of an ongoing phone service outage.
Verizon landline service in west Kern County is down due to a cut cable.
KCSO said Verizon customers in Taft, McFarland and Glenville have no landline service, including 9-1-1 service.
Customers with AT&T service are currently not affected.
The McFarland Police Department also has no landline phone service or 9-1-1 service.
The Sheriff's Office is currently handling emergency and non-emergency calls for service for the McFarland Police Department.
Verizon is working on repairing the outage. The Sheriff's Office said there have not been any cellular outages reported.
Citizens in affected areas can call the Sheriff's Office for service on cellular phones in most areas.
For emergencies, call 9-1-1. For non-emergencies you can call (661) 861-3110.
KCSO wants to remind people that when you call 9-1-1 from a cell phone they will not have your location information so that will need to be provided by the caller.
