BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - It's a plan that supporters say will help improve the health of thousands of Kern County residents.

The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District approved a new plan last night during its meeting in Bakersfield.

The measure will impose tough restrictions to cut down local air pollution and meet federal air quality standards.

Among the restrictions are new filters for big rigs, eliminating older trucks, and higher fines for polluters.

According to the Bakersfield Californian, it also means the number of no burn days could double.
