BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -

A woman is recovering from severe injuries after being beaten and held against her will for days.

Police say the victim's spouse, 26-year-old Kristopher Lawless, was arrested Thursday.

He is facing a laundry list of charges, including attempted murder, torture, false imprisonment and spousal abuse.

The victim told police it all started on Monday when she and Lawless got into an argument.

Police say he hit her repeatedly until she passed out. When she regained consciousness, she had been bound.

Police say Lawless threatened to kill her and strangled, stabbed, burned, gagged and bit her.

On Thursday, the victim was finally able to escape and flag down someone for help.
