MIAMI, Fl. - A Bakersfield man was shot and killed late Monday when he refused to give his cell phone to two teenagers, Miami police said.
The shooting happened at 282 NE 54th Street about 11:30 p.m.
Gregory Cooper and another teenager held 54-year-old Jerry Sherrell, of Bakersfield, Calif., at gunpoint after seeing him with a cell phone, police said.
The niece of Sherrell contacted 23ABC News and said that her uncle was from Bakersfield.
When Sherrell resisted, the second teenager shot him several times, police said. Sherrell was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died.
Police arrested Cooper, 16, afterwards. He is charged with first-degree murder.
