BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Deputies from the Lamont Substation located and recovered 256 stolen beehives in boxes and several other empty beehive boxes, police said.
Police found the stolen beehives on Jan. 18 at a house in the 6100 block of Panama Lane. Deputies arrested Gabino Jordan Pena who is 32-years-old, police said.
The beehives were determined to be stolen from United Honeybees and they were valued at around $40,000.
Pena was booked at the Central Receiving Facility on counts of possession of stolen property, possession of stolen property with altered identification marks, and destruction of evidence. His bail was set at $15,000.
The Rural Crime Investigation Unit conducted follow-up investigation and located additional victims.
This investigation is ongoing.
