BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - 2ND UPDATE: PG&E officials tell 23ABC an "equipment failure" led to Thursday night's blackout. There is no word on what piece of equipment failed.
Power was restored to all customers between 3:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. Friday morning.
UPDATE: Power was restored early Friday morning to PG&E customers in Southwest Bakersfield. There is still no word from the utility on what caused Thursday night's outage.
Thousands of people in southwest Bakersfield have been left without power.
A power outage hit a wide section of the area shortly after 9 p.m.
The outage initially affected 3,500 customers.
Several viewers contacted 23ABC reporting loud booms before the lights went out.
As of 11 p.m., power has been restored to all but 2,400 customers.
No word from PG&E on what caused the outage and they do not have an estimated time of restoration.
