Probe to see if CHP officer Denny Drummond's death was suicide

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Kern County Sheriff's investigators are trying to determine whether an off-duty California Highway Patrol officer found dead of a gunshot wound to the head was killed or committed suicide.
Authorities responding to the shooting at 11:27 p.m. Thursday found 43-year-old Denny Drummond lying in the road with a gunshot wound to his head. A handgun gun was nearby in his car.
Drummond was off duty and had been at the nearby Lone Oak Lounge before the shooting.
Investigators are reviewing the bar's surveillance tapes to help determine what happened.
The newspaper also reports that Drummond was being evaluated for a possible reoccurrence of cancer.
Drummond had been with the CHP for 14 years and was a military veteran. He was married with two sons.
