DELANO, Calif. - Officials located aircraft wreckage and a dead pilot in a field on Wednesday morning, south of Delano.

Rescue crew officials found the aircraft between McComb and Quality Roads.

The Kern County Fire Department reports that witnesses saw a helicopter go down about six miles southeast of Delano Municipal Airport, in the area of Sherwood Avenue and Zerker Road.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the helicopter was returning to Delano Airport in Kern County when it disappeared around 6:15 a.m.

It was among three helicopters that were supposed to be conducting frost control on a local field. The two other helicopters returned to their base.

Gregor says one of the pilots who came back was unable to contact the missing pilot by radio.

The aircrafts tail number is N828AC.

The FAA and NTSB is still investigating this incident.
