BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - If you work or live in downtown or South Bakersfield we have some traffic alerts for you.
Today city crews began work on two road reconstruction projects that will affect traffic between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
For the next two weeks, traffic on Truxtun Avenue between Chester Avenue and T Street will have lane closures.
Then starting on August 11, the road is scheduled for a complete closure between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Over on Panama Lane, between Monitor Street and Union Avenue, lane closures will also be in effect.
Detours and alternate access points will be provided during these closure periods.
"Right now it will be temporarily inconvenient for the traveling public. But in the long run we will see better roadways, smoother travel, and a brand-new road for the traveling public to use," said City Public Works Department worker Rick Millwee.
If you have to travel to these areas city officials want to remind you to slow down through the construction zone.
Both projects are expected to be completed on September 22.
